Another Young Casualty of Urban Sprawl
We found this baby yesterday in a parking garage, under the rear wheel of a parked car. Normally, the rule is: never, ever, ever, take a wild animal out of its natural habitat. But a garage hardly qualifies as nature, does it? Anyway, we took it home, made a nest in a shoe box with a clean dishcloth and put a warm water bottle underneath (warm like a mother bird's body to cuddle up against). The pet store had baby-bird formula, full of vitamins and everything, which is served with a syringe at approximately 101 degrees (Fahrenheit), every hour and a half.
So far it's survived the night, and we're looking for a wildlife rehabilitator in the area, so they can take care of it (our 5 cats are just dying to know why they're not allowed up in the attic today).
We decided to call it "Fawkes" for now. Here's some pictures I took at feeding time, doesn't Fawkes look like a baby dragon? It's amazing watching something so delicate and fierce moving around.
peace.
Update on young Fawkes: We found a licensed rehabilitator to take him/her! She buddies the baby birds up with older rescues, and keeps them together so the grown-ups can teach the babies how to fly and everything. Oh, and she has also identified Fawkes as a sparrow.

Wow, you guys are awesome. Great job!
It always breaks my heart to find a baby bird away from its nest. =/ Luckily we too have a wild bird rehabilitator near by.
Oh, and awesome pics! He DOES look like a dragon... *considers stealing pics to use as reference* Or she. How do you tell anyway? My sister would know. She's pretty much an animal encyclopedia. o.o Heh heh.
Good luck! (Our kitty wouldn't dream of touching a baby bird. I'm starting to think she's a vegetarian. ^^)
